Good Afternoon!

I'll bet you were thinking I wasn't sending your weekly update of What's Happening!  I've been so busy getting the Rod and Staff newsletter ready for you to get in church on Sunday, and therefore, this week's What's Happening at Good Shepherd Church is a short (and late) report.

1.      TOMORROW Fri. July 27-Friday Bible Study at the Valintis home begins at 7pm.

2.      Sat. July 28-Shepherd's Food Pantry is open 9:30-11:30am at 2 Belmont Dr. (at Rt. 53)

3.      Sun. July 29-One Worship Service will be held at 9:30am (announcements begin 10 minutes before).  Rod and Staff August newsletters will be distributed

4.      Wed. Aug 1-Wednesday Study at 6:30pm

5.      Thursday Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 5-   R O M E O F E S T   A C T I V I T I E S

6.      Sun. Aug 5-Traditional Worship at 8:15am at church (announcements begin 10 minutes before worship)

7.      Sun. Aug 5-Praise Worship Service at the Romeofest Pavilion at 10am.

8.      Tues. Aug 7-Shepherd's Food Pantry is open 6:30 to 8pm at 2 Belmont Dr. (at Rt. 53)

Pastor Suzanne returns from vacation on Monday, July 30.  In the meantime, if you have a church or pastoral emergency, please be sure to contact our Council President, Sue Hattimer at 815-592-6741 or Council Member, Judy Jordan at 815-210-9967.  If you have questions about the church calendar, events, etc., please contact me, your Pastoral Assistant, in the church office at 815-886-4354.  Pastor Suzanne has not been checking her email or answering phone calls during her vacation.  You may "see" her on Facebook, however, as she routinely posts pictures and updates about her trip.  They have been enjoying the beach this week after visiting the White House on Friday.  Please pray for safe travel for Pastor and her family and for rest and renewal as they complete their vacation together.

Clothing Giveaway – Remember the Matthew 25 Group is looking for gently used clothing for our August 11 clothing giveaway.  We are also looking for people to sort through the donated clothing, launder it, help us set up for the event, etc.  Please contact Rose Darguzis for more information and/or the church office and see the sign-up on the Info Table at church.

Last chance for Summer Day Camp is the week of Aug. 6-10th.  Camp runs from 8:45 to 11:45am and costs $40 for a week of learning, sun and fun activities.  Contact the preschool (815-885-4356) or the church (815-886-4354) if you are interested in enrolling your child(ren).

Enroll now in Preschool and save $25 on the non-refundable Registration fee that is increasing to $75 on August 1st.  At their last meeting, the Church Council voted to increase the registration fee as well as monthly tuition fees, which are increasing $10 per month at each age level.  We will honor the current $50 registration fee until Wednesday, August 1st.

Romeofest - As you already know, we are gearing up for another year at Romeofest.  Our church hosts a booth at the Fest and we're looking for volunteers to greet people at our booth, help children with crafts, raise awareness about the Malaria Campaign, and more.  Good Shepherd will once again be leading Praise Worship on Sunday at 10am as well.  Please see Chris Daniels or Carrie Worthington for more information on how you can get involved, represent and serve Good Shepherd Church.  All are welcome!

Our Shepherd's Food Pantry is in desperate need of tuna for Saturday.  Tuna is an important staple item for the Pantry.  If you can help, please drop it off at the UPC Credit Union at 2 Belmont Drive, the church office before 2:30pm tomorrow, or call Kim or Teresa to arrange for one of them to pick it up.  Thanks!

The wall came tumbling down, or at least half of it did!  The project is being completed as I write this, and you will be amazed at how having the half wall and new exit door opens everything up!  Won't that be a special welcome home gift for Pastor and her family.

Wishing you the blessings of peace, hope, joy, health, and love always.  Remember we are just a phone call away if you need anything.  Make sure to get your Rod and Staff on Sunday.  Have a great weekend and stay cool!

Radical Study - Our study will meet this Sunday, July 15 at the home of Ronn and Tim.  Note that we will begin our meeting at 4:30pm, not the usual 4pm.  Need directions?  Please contact Ronn, Tim, or Renea, our Pastoral Assistant.

Recap of last Sunday:  Last week we talked about "Being Sent."  We heard from both the Old and New Testament - from Ezekiel, Paul in 2 Corinthians, and Jesus in the Gospel of Mark.  We were reminded that God works best in our weaknesses, which isn't always easy for some of us.  We were also reminded, as we go forth and share the message of Jesus, that we should speak whether people will listen or not; that we should not be dismayed or discouraged by other's reactions to us; that we should discern whether God is sending us alone, like Ezekiel or with others, like the disciples.  Most of all, we should remember that God has sent us and called us to go.  The bottom line question is this, "Will we go?"

Preview of this Sunday:  Our theme this week will be, "God's Plan and Purpose."  We'll be looking at Paul's letter to the Ephesians and thinking about what God's "secret plan" is, how we fit into it, and how we can take this plan to those who need to hear it.  We hope you'll join us and invite others to join us too.

ATTENTION ALL MINISTRY TEAMS AND LIAISONS:  The Church Council will be meeting on Saturday morning and I need you to submit your team reports by tomorrow (Friday) morning so I can get them copied for the Council.  By next Thursday, July 19th, I'll also need your information for the August Rod and Staff newsletter.   Thanks!

Wishing you the blessings of peace, hope, joy, health, and love always.  Have a great weekend and stay cool!
