WHAT'S HAPPENING AT GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH

Hello!

Today is my father-in-law’s 85th birthday, though I’ve offered to reverse his age to 58!  If only it were so easy to do that.  We’ll be celebrating with him in Indiana on Saturday.

Here’s the latest information on What’s Happening at Good Shepherd Church. . .

Sun. March 30-Connection Café opens at 8:45am before Worship at 9:30am

Mon. March 31-First meeting of the Care and Support Group at 7pm at church (see information below)

Thur. April 3-The 90-day Planning Teams will meet at church beginning at 7pm

Sun. April 6-Join us at the Connection Café at 8:45am and we’ll then Worship together at 9:30am

Sun. April 6-Manna orders and money are due today, and will be delivered next Sunday.  The forms are lilac colored this month.

Wednesday Lenten Soup Suppers and Services continue…Pastor Suzanne and the Worship Team invite you to join them for our special services during the season of Lent.  Each Wednesday through April 9 we will be doing a series entitled, “Father, Into Your Hands I Commit.”  Our Soup Supper is at 6:30pm.  Please sign up for the suppers so those who are preparing the soup know how many to provide for.  Also, feel free to bring a dessert to share.  While we break bread together over supper, we’ll also be studying the Bible, seeing where the Spirit leads us in God’s Word, so be sure to bring your Bible with you too.  Worship Services take place at 7:30pm and is a great opportunity to invite friends, neighbors and coworkers to church.  All are welcome!

Care and Support Group meets this Monday!

Several people in the church have been discussing the possibility of gathering for a care and support group to have a safe place to share “life concerns.”  Because Sunday mornings don’t always offer the opportunity to talk with each other on a deeper level, we’d like to offer an alternative time  to meet and provide a safe place for talking about the daily struggles as we walk in faith.  We will have a first meeting on Monday, March 31 at 7pm at the church.  If you are looking for a group of people to walk with you through the ups and downs of life, perhaps this is the place for you.  If you have any questions, please talk to Pastor Suzanne.

Pastry Puffins delivery will be between noon and 6pm on Wednesday.  The Preschool thanks everyone for supporting their fundraisers!

Manna order forms, which are light lilac for the month of April, are now available in church and the office.  These forms will need to be turned in by April 6, 2014 and delivery will be made the following week on April 13th.  Share them with your friends, coworkers and family.  It’s a great, practical way to help raise funds for the church.  Thanks to those that continue to place Manna orders.  You rock!

90 Days Group

Our group continues to meet discussing a variety of ideas including sources of income, space usage, membership, outreach, staffing, and more.  Our next meeting will be on Thursday, April 3 at 7pm, where we’ll be putting together recommendations for the April 27th Special Congregational Meeting to present to the whole congregation.  Have questions about what we’re doing?  Please seek out a Council member: Carrie Worthington, President; Judy Jordan, Vice-President; Dave Darguzis, Secretary; Roy Jamason, George Sanchez, and Bruce Texley, Council members at large.

Looking ahead:

We’re going to have a special Holy Week this year that will culminate in an all-church retreat on Good Friday, April 18.  The place and time will be shared soon, but please mark your calendars now and make it a priority to join us.

On a sad note, prayers have been requested for a young man in 6th grade whose mother passed away recently due to cancer.  He is an only child and both he and his father need our prayers to help them cope with their loss.

I’m wishing you all peace, hope, faith, joy, love, grace, and health.

90 Days Group

At the Annual meeting in January, the general consensus was to take 90 days to review all aspects of our budget and spending to see where things could be changed, cut, etc.  We will be having several meetings and would like everyone in our congregation to be a part of one of these planning teams.  They are:

Source of Income-Carrie Worthington is Council liaison.  This will include a Stewardship drive, Fundraising, grants, etc.

Space Usage-Dave Darguzis and Judy Jordan are Council Liaisons.  This includes a review of our space, what can be changed, what we need.  A review of Preschool and DCFS and what changing our space configurations would mean to the future of the Preschool.

Salary/Benefits-Bruce Texley is Council liaison.  This will be a complete review of all of our Staffing options which include benefits, Pastoral status, etc.

Membership/Outreach-Roy Jamason and George Sanchez are Council Liaisons.  This will include a review of what immediate solutions can be done to reach those who are not attending, reaching out to the community, planning for evangelism and growth.

Please pray about serving on one of these groups that are planning the future of our church.  Each of these four areas will meet again at 7pm on March 18th, and April 3rd at the church.  Any questions should be directed to the Council liaison member shown above.  Your help and input would be appreciated!

Good Shepherd Preschool's Book Fair and Open House is coming this Saturday, March 15th from 10am to 2 pm.  If you know of any parents of a 3 or 4 years old looking for a preschool, please invite them to stop in to meet Miss Marilyn and Miss Judith and tour the school.  Enrollment for the coming 2014-15 school-year will be underway!   There will be books for all ages, so stop in and see what you can find.  Books make nice additions to those Easter baskets, or birthday gifts, or just a little something for someone!  Rumor has it that Clifford the Big Red Dog and Geronimo Stilton will be there to greet the children too!  Hope to see you.

You rock!

Mmmmm!  LAST DAY to place orders for Pastry Puffins, the Preschool’s Spring Fundraiser is Sunday.  These tasty pastries will be delivered on Wednesday, April 2nd.  There are 12 individual freezer-to-oven French pastries in each box with 8 flavors to choose from.  A box of a dozen costs $13.  They’re great for special occasions including Easter breakfast.  Please talk to Pat Hurdle or Chris and Art Arellano if the delivery date is a problem or if you have any questions, and thanks in advance for your support.
