WHAT'S HAPPENING AT GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH

Hello!

Happy Friday to you as we celebrate the last long weekend of summer.  Heavy traffic is forecast, so please be careful in your travels.

 Here's What's Happening around Good Shepherd Church . . .

TONIGHT-Fri. Aug 29-Crafter's Night at the church beginning at 7pm.  Bring your project and join in for a crafty fellowship evening.

Sun. Aug 31-Connection Café will be open at 8:30am until Worship begins at 9:00am

Sun. Aug 31-Congregational Meeting will follow worship.  All members are urged to attend and non-members are welcome to share their comments as well, but only communing members will be allowed to vote.

Mon. Sept 1- Enjoy a work-free Labor Day Holiday!

Tues. Sept 2-M&M's Women's Bible Study will meet at Jan Sanchez' home at 7pm

Wed. Sept 3-Bring a light dinner at 6:30pm and join the Bible Study beginning at 7pm

Sun. Sept 7-Connection Café opens at 8:30am and Worship begins at 9:00am

Sun. Sept 7-Manna orders are due to be turned in today with delivery next Sunday

Manna order forms for September are available now and due to be turned in on September 7th.  This is a safe way to spend without carrying cash.  As Bob Kirkland pointed out, with the Jewel Store cards available from Manna, you don't have to worry about their recent security breach.  There are several vendor cards that will suit everyone's needs, and they make excellent gifts as well.  Best of all, you don't have any extra fees added.  You only pay the face value of the card.  Check out the newly improved form and consider placing an order.  Thanks!

Remember our important Congregational Meeting that will be held following worship on Sunday, August 31st.  Please make plans to attend and give your input as we make important decisions regarding the future of our church.  Our 90-Day Part 2 teams met last night in preparation of Sunday's meeting.  Come hear what they have to suggest regarding the future of our church.  Going away for the Labor Day weekend?  Please take the time to contact one of our Council members with input you would like to share.

Garage Sale unsold items which included clothing, books and shelving, were picked up on Tuesday morning by Vietnam Veterans of America.  Children's items were donated to SOS Children's Village.  Thanks to Judy Jordan for taking care of these arrangements.  Isn't it nice these items have gone to places they will be appreciated?  Thanks to everyone who helped make the Garage Sale the success that it was!

"Freezer finds new home."  We are pleased to share that the upright freezer we've had in our Connection Cafe space has been donated to the DuPage Township Food Pantry.  They were so excited to receive a call from one of our Space Team members, Pat Hurdle, on Thursday about the donation, that they came right over to get it.  And we are excited to see it being used at a pantry, which is where it was meant to be.  For those who don't know, the freezer was originally purchased with a grant from Jewel and our Church Council felt it was best to find another pantry or non-profit organization to which we could donate it.  Praise God it happened so quickly. Thanks, Pat, for your help!

Members wanted!  Several people have asked about joining our church and, with a possible vote on Sunday, we'd like to make that happen.  So, if you have been regularly attending our church and would like to officially become a member, be sure to join us this Sunday during our 9am worship service for a special time of welcome.  And, if you've been a member for many years, be on the lookout for a chance for you to renew your commitment to our church family in the weeks to come.  Questions?  Please contact Pastor Suzanne.

Sunday teller volunteers are needed.  The more volunteers we can get, the less often you will be called on to assist.  Free training is offered.  See Allen Kirkland for details.

Peace, hope, love, faith, grace, and health to you and your family.  Hope to see you on Sunday.

Connection Café comments:  We have gotten away from people providing treats.  Wouldn't you like to treat your fellow worshipers?  How about for special occasions?  Cake, cookies, muffins, breads, that are store bought or homemade, whatever you wish.  Please coordinate this with Lori Haack.  Also, just a reminder that, when we are worshiping, the Café is closed.  Please be considerate and give your full attention to our worship time.  God watches over us 24/7.  We can give Him an uninterrupted hour.

Be watching for a letter in the mail regarding the Congregational Meeting that will be held following worship on Sunday, August 31st, and plan to attend to give your input as we make important decisions regarding the future of our church.  Going away for the Labor Day weekend?  Please take the time to contact one of our Council members with input you would like to share.

I am taking a few days of vacation and will be back in the office on Wednesday.  Remember Good Shepherd when you're garage sale-ing tomorrow and Saturday and for worship on Sunday!

Peace, hope, love, faith, grace, and health to you and your family.
