WHAT'S HAPPENING AT GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH

Happy Cold Day to you!

Aren’t you tired of the cold and snow?  It is the end of February, and we’re still in a deep freeze.  This has been the longest winter I can remember, how about all of you?  Spring has got to be close by—Dairy Queen has been open for two weeks, and we “spring forward” to begin daylight savings time again on March 9th!

Here’s the latest information on What’s Happening at Good Shepherd Church. . .

TONIGHT-Thur. Feb. 27-Our Planning Teams will be meeting beginning at 7pm at the church.  Come and help the team of your choice plan the future of our church.  Your input will be welcomed.

Sun. March 2-Connection Café will open around 8:45am with Traditional Worship beginning at 9:30am

Sun. March 2-Preschool Pastry Puffins Fundraiser kicks off with a “taste” provided at the Connection Café (see details below)

Tue. March 4-M&M’s (Martha & Mary’s) Women’s Bible Study meets at 7pm at the home of Jan Sanchez

Wed. March 5-Lent begins! Ash Wednesday Services will be held at 7:30am and 7:30pm

Sat. March 8-Be sure to “spring your clocks forward an hour before you go to bed as we begin daylight savings time!

Sun. March 9-Connection Café will open around 8:45am with Worship beginning at 9:30

Sun. March 9-Manna order forms and money are to be turned in today and will be delivered by March 16th

At the Annual meeting, the general consensus was to take the following 90 days to review all aspects of our budget and spending to see where things could be changed, cut, etc.  We will be having several meetings and we would like everyone in our congregation to be a part of one of these planning teams.  They are:

Salary/Benefits-Bruce Texley is Council liaison.  This will be a complete review of all of our Staffing options which include benefits, Pastoral status, etc.

Source of Income-Carrie Worthington is Council liaison.  This will include a Stewardship drive, Fundraising, grants, etc.

Membership/Outreach-Roy Jamason and George Sanchez are Council Liaisons.  This will include a review of what immediate solutions can be done to reach those who are not attending, reaching out to the community, planning for evangelism and growth.

Space Usage-Dave Darguzis and Judy Jordan are Council Liaisons.  This includes a review of our space, what can be changed, what we need.  A review of Preschool and DCFS and what changing our space configurations would mean to the future of the Preschool.

Please prayerfully consider where you can best serve in planning the future of our church.  Each of these four areas will meet at 7pm on February 27th (tonight), March 18th, and April 3rd at the church.  Any questions should be directed to the Council liaison member shown above.  Your help would be sincerely appreciated as the clock is ticking!

Ash Wednesday and Lenten services…Lent is almost here!  Mark your calendars for all the Wednesdays in March.  We’ll begin with Ash Wednesday worship and the imposition of ashes on March 5 at 7:30am and/or 7:30pm.  Then, join us March 12 through April 9, as we offer midweek Lenten soup suppers and services.  Suppers start at 6:30pm with a service to follow at 7:30pm.  Put it on your calendars and make it a priority to be a part of these special, solemn seasonal services.  Please sign up for soup suppers so we know how many to plan for, as soup will be provided by church members.  The sign-up sheet will be placed by the prayer request form on the table at the back of the church.  All are welcome!

Manna order forms, which are green for the month of March, are now available in church and the office.  These forms will need to be turned in by March 9, 2014 and delivery will be made the following week on March 16th.  Share them with your friends and family.  It’s a great, practical way to help raise funds for the church.

Mmmmm!  Something good is coming your way, with free samples at the Connection Café this Sunday!  The Preschool is launching their Pastry Puffins Spring Fundraiser, with orders being taken between this Sunday and March 16, and delivery on Wednesday, April 2nd.  There are 12 individual freezer-to-oven French pastries in each box with 8 flavors to choose from.  A box of a dozen costs $13.  These are great for special occasions including Easter breakfast.  Please take an order blank and sell them to your relatives, co-workers, and friends.  Please talk to Pat Hurdle or Chris and Art Arellano if you have any questions, and thanks in advance for your support.

I’m wishing you all peace, hope, faith, joy, love, grace, and health.  Think Spring!

Recap from last Sunday:  Last week we heard about superheroes and thought about the extraordinary powers we've all been given by God.  Pastor Suzanne shared some of the traits of superheroes and how these traits can be found within each of us.   We heard from the prophet, Micah, about what God requires of us - "To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God."  How are you living that out and "saving the world" today?

Preview of this Sunday:  One of our favorite songs, "Salt and Light" comes directly from the text we'll be reading from Matthew this week.  We'll also hear important words from the prophet, Isaiah, about what God looks for in us - in our worship and in our daily living.  Come, join the discussion!

As always, I’m wishing everyone peace, hope, faith, joy, love, grace, health and warmth!
